Assassin’s Creed is a popular video game franchise released by Ubisoft in 2007. This franchise has been home to some of the best and most memorable games of the last decade. Some Assassin’s Creed games have gone on to spawn movies, such as Corruption and Syndicate, while others continue to serve as the basis for upcoming games such as Assassin’s Creed Origins and The Division 2. Despite its impressive scope, it seems that this franchise may be ending soon with Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey slated for release later this year. It seems this last installment in the main series may be a direct continuation of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which came out five years ago back in 2013. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it is bittersweet to hear from Ubisoft when they still have enough resources left in the bank to make more side games and movies. While this may seem like an abrupt ending, there are countless reasons why it makes sense for this franchise to end. The first reason is that Assassin’s Creed has already peaked with its fourth game, but also because people are over the series. Assassin’s Creed is a series that has been praised for its incredible gameplay, although it should be noted that the gameplay has become too familiar for veteran players. The series is also known for being a simulator in which players can explore different locations around the world while pretending to be a secret hitman. It should be noted that this is a hard claim to believe when you take a closer look at the games and what you actually do. In every installment of the franchise from Assassin’s Creed II to Syndicate, players have been fighting corrupt Templars who are threatening free will throughout the world. This is a very vague and vague concept that can be seen throughout the series. To be precise, the world of Assassins Creed is an alternate history in which free will does not exist because all people are subjugated to the Templar Order. Claiming that players are merely pretending to be these secret assassins is a bit farfetched and even ridiculous at times, like when you were able to run around in your underwear and fight enemies in previous installments of the franchise. The series largely depends on its system; if this system was not flawed Assassin’s Creed would not be as good as it is. The first Assassin’s Creed was a leap forward from the first two titles in the franchise because it gave players a more interactive environment to explore. Like most first-person shooters, the series is too linear and not as open as one would hope for. However, Assassin’s Creed II was a massive step up from its predecessor because of the completely different environment to explore. In this installment things were much more open as players could finally move around freely as they wanted to rather than being confined within a certain area. Assassin’s Creed III was an improvement from its predecessor but still retained some flaws that brought it down.
